Peugeot 206 Key Replacement
The replacement of a Peugeot 206 key is a simple task that can be completed in a matter of minutes. You just need to transfer the immobilizer chip, battery and electronic components from your old keyfob and then the new.
Peugeot keyfobs in the 206 series can have an inoperable button-cell battery. This video explains how you can replace the battery.
The Immobilizer System

When you insert and turn your Peugeot key, it sends a code electronically to the engine control system. If the code doesn't match, the engine will not start. This helps prevent unauthorized car theft. If you're having problems with your Peugeot car immobilizer, a skilled automotive locksmith can help. They can employ tools from dealers to program a new key or replace your old one. This can save time and money. They'll also come to your location so that you don't have to spend a long time at the dealership.
Not all antitheft devices created equal. The Thatcham Research organisation tests and grades anti-theft technologies to ensure it is in compliance with high safety standards. They are able to test the performance of the system by accessing the CAN bus and then reading messages that the components of the immobilizer exchange.
But even the best systems can be hacked when they are targeted correctly. In one study, Jan Bokslag used weaknesses in the Hitag2 protocol to crack 3 cars that were all older models. In ten seconds, the vehicle's security code was obtained from one of them. The information is then used to create a functioning key, which disables the immobilizer. The other two were harder to crack however they did eventually get broken.
The Immobilizer Chip
A key that is chipped (often known as a Smart Key) has an RFID microchip that transmits a password to the car's immobilizer system. If the code on the chip matches that of the car's system, then the car will begin to move.
This is an important anti-theft feature that assists in preventing thieves from hotwiring or otherwise bypassing the engine immobilizer system. If the immobilizer isn't able to recognize the key, it won't allow the engine to start even if someone is trying to short-circuit the ignition circuit.
Most modern cars have advanced electronic Engine Immobilizer systems that utilize changing or rolling security codes. The intelligent system can change the second code each time the key's used and push it into the chip of the key. The first code is permanent, and the immobilizer checks the codes every time the ignition key is turned.
This is a sophisticated technology that is very difficult to hack. This is why most stolen vehicles aren't able to be started. This is also the reason why when your Peugeot begins to start but then stops working it's probably not the immobilizer. It could be a variety of electrical issues causing the car to not work. Our auto locksmiths are able solve these issues. They can also reprogram chipped or smart Peugeot Key to ensure it works again.
The Battery
Peugeot keys for cars contain a transponder chip which when coupled with the vehicle, disarms the vehicles standard immobiliser system that is located in the ECU (engine control unit). This allows the vehicle to start and can also allow the key fob to operate the doors and boot. The chip is concealed in the head of the remote or manual key.
Peugeot was faced with a lot of competition when it launched the 206 in 1999, coming from superminis like the Ford Fiesta or Volkswagen Polo. Peugeot's unique strategy was to position the 206 between the Peugeot 106 range and the 306 range. This was to ensure that lower models of the 306 and 106 could draw sales away from the more expensive end 205s.
The 206 range comprises three models: an open-air hatchback (206 CC) 2 door cabriolet coupe, and a station-wagon (206 SW). There was also an WRC homologated version of the 206, dubbed the 207 GTi that could go from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds and the top speed of 210 km/h.

The Key Fob
Peugeot is a French car manufacturer established in 1810. Peugeot is owned by PSA Peugeot Citroen. Peugeot cars are often considered as one of the best in their class. If your Peugeot key fob is worn or damaged it is possible to replace it. All you have to do is transfer the electronic components, battery and immobilizer chip from the old key to the new fob.
To ensure that the new key works properly, test it in your vehicle. Ensure all doors are closed and turn off the ignition and press the lock button on the fob two times. If the LED stops flashing it is working. If it's not working you may have forgotten to transfer your transponder chip.
